As the sun set over the historic uptown of Butte, Montana, a sense of unease settled over the city like a shroud. The once-thriving mining town, where the air was thick with the smell of smoke and sweat, was now a shadow of its former self. But on this St. Patrick's Day, the streets were alive with the sound of laughter and music, as thousands of people gathered to celebrate the city's rich heritage. But amidst the revelry, a sense of tension hung in the air, like a whispered secret waiting to be unleashed. And at the center of it all was Seth Bodnar, the former president of the University of Montana, who had just announced his candidacy for the US Senate as an independent.
